Maria lives a quiet, modest life in a small town. One day an unexpected happiness breaks her dull routine - she meets charming Alex and becomes his wife in a month. But the happiness ends up just as swiftly as it began. After the wedding ceremony Alex leaves for St. Petersburg. On the same day Maria learns from the news that his helicopter crashed down, but her husband is safe and sound. However nothing is what it seems. Alex tells her that it was his brother Aleksey who died in the catastrophe, and according to documents Maria is married to the deceased and not Alex, whose full name is Alexander. And Alexander turns out to be a scheming monster with a cunning plan in which Maria plays the leading part.

The story takes place in the late 1980s in the small town. Lesya is a beautiful, gifted, but very self-willed girl. After her parents died, she was raised by her elder sister Katya. For Lesya's sake, she abandoned the dream of becoming an actor and worked around the clock so that Lesya would have it all. Shortly after graduation from school, beautiful Lesya received a marriage proposal from her ardent admirer and accepted it. But instead of preparing for the wedding, the heroine disappears all days long at the railway station, longingly meets trains from Moscow and waits for someone else..

1953. A Russian soldier stationed in Poland falls in love for a local girl. Their forbidden romance turns them into traitors to their countries.
